6 million people deleted their Facebook accounts in the last month, dropping the number of continuously active users from 155.2 million to 149.4 million. “America’s Hat” to the north (Canada) lost 1.52 million users. Is Mark Zuckerberg losing his magic, technological touch? Have we finally rebelled against the procrastination tool that is Facebook?

These drastic drops in numbers have thwarted Zuckerberg’s ambition to get to 1 billion users, which he thought would be possible by June.

Facebook numbers are always questionable. Over 7.5 million Facebook users are under the age of 13, which means that over 7.5 million users are created by over-obsessed parents and middle school students trying to stay hip. That’s not counting the numerous accounts set up for fake people. I am currently friends with the Lucky Charms Leprechaun and “Gene Parmesan” from “Arrested Development.”

Still, the drop isn’t an anomaly. Millions of people are deciding to relinquish their ability to “poke” and post cat videos on each others’ walls. Why?

Magnus Hoglund, exec of Law360.com, said, “From my experience, I get the sense that being on Facebook is not cool anymore. The early adopters and trend setters are moving away. [But] these are also exactly the type of people brand advertisers want to reach; if they are leaving, it doesn’t look good for Facebook.”

It’s true that Tumblr, Linked In, Bebo and other social networking sites are gaining steam. What do you think? Would you ever delete your Facebook?
