He did live sketch comedy decades before Saturday Night Live. Observational humor decades before Seinfeld. Sid Caeser, the original King of Comedy has passed away at the age of 91.

“Your Show of Shows” was the pioneering sketch comedy show in the golden age of television.

He hired and launched the careers of comedy writers like Mel Brooks, Woody Allen and Neil Simon.

He was Coach Calhoun in “Grease”, Mr. Ellis in “Vegas Vacation” (The money, the money, I won the money…), Melville Crump in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.”

The combination of Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca was absolute comedy magic.

Carl Reiner tweeted this after hearing of the death of Sid Caesar: “We’ve lost the greatest, monologist, pantomimic, sketch comedian TV has ever known! Word GENIUS is oft misused but not so here. HAIL CAESAR,”
