What do Katy PerryTyler, the Creator, Nick Cave, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Weird Al all have in common? Well, they all covered the song, “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built For Two) for artist Mark Ryden.

Those artists, along with others like Mark Mothersbaugh, Danny Elfman, covered the song, which was originally recorded in 1892. It soon became a hit song of the day, but was later popularized in the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which it is sung by the HAL 9000 computer.

Versions of the song are included on Ryden’s new compilation The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell, which was released last Saturday and is a part of Ryden’s new art exhibition The Gay ’90s: West at the Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles.

The album printed on red vinyl, is limited to 999 copies, which are all hand-numbered and signed by Ryden, and priced at $99.99. Half of the records were sold at his recent gallery show, the rest will go on sale via his website on May 13.
