Former The Devil Wears Prada co-stars Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway faced off against each other on the latest episode (April 9) of Spike TV’s hilarious celebrity throw-down, Lip Sync Battle.
In round one, where each contestant performs sans props, it looked like Blunt was going to take the belt (the show’s prize for the winner). Hathaway led off with a rendition of Mary J Blige‘s “Love” (the lead track on her 2001 classic No More Drama) including Mary’s rap verse. It was cute, but the audience didn’t seem convinced, nor did her former co-star, who sniffed, “I thought she was gonna do a show tune.”
Blunt, however, brought it with her performance of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity,” complete with Eve’s rap verse, which had the audience waving their hands in the air, as if they just didn’t care. At the end? Mic drop.
As host LL Cool J was asking Blunt if she knew what “I gotta bag it up” referred to, her opponent pulled a Kanye, rushing the stage saying, “I’m happy for you and I’mma let you finish…” But like Kanye whenever he (or his friends) don’t win at an award show, Hathaway just seemed nervous, worried that things weren’t going her way.
But the second round, which allows costumes, backing dancers and props told a very different story. Blunt led off this time, with a frantic take on Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart.” She was decked out in fur and rose colored glasses, backed by dancers straight out of the Age of Aquarius.
And just as viewers were checking their tablets to see what was on next, Hathaway slayed with her rendition of Miley Cyrus‘s “Wrecking Ball.” Yes, she wore her skivvies. Yes, she licked a mallet. And yup, she rode a wrecking ball for dear life, flipping Blunt the bird while she was at it.
