A new study published in The American Journal of Family Therapy shows that elementary school students are being assigned three times as much homework as has been deemed appropriate by educational experts. First-graders were found to be spending 28 minutes per night on their homework, far surpassing the “10 minutes per grade level per night” standard. Meanwhile, parents of kindergarteners reported that their kids spent 25 minutes per night on their studies. “It is absolutely shocking to me to find out that kindergarten students (who) are not supposed to have any homework at all are getting as much homework as a third-grader is supposed to get,” the study’s editor tells CNN.
How much assistance should parents provide to help kids get through homework?
