Amazon To Open a Checkout-Free Supermarket


What??? Amazon announced on Monday that it will open a brick-and-mortar supermarket in Seattle that has no cashiers and no checkout lines. Instead, shoppers will use an Amazon Go app to check in via their smartphones when they enter the location. Using technology similar to self-driving cars, sensors then register all the items a customer picks up and charges the customer electronically once they leave the store. The Amazon Go store is currently being used by company employees, but is expected to debut to the public early next year. If the formula is successful, Amazon plans to open as many as 2,000 Amazon Go stores across the U.S. Here’s a video that shows how it works:
