Walk Off the Earth first got our attention with their covers, reimagining songs and applying their own stamp, but it’s their original music that has really made us a fan. The Ontario outfit is back with Here We Go!, their first LP since 2015 and the latest example of their own unique brand of infectious pop.

“It’s been quite the year for us. We’ve had a bit of a roller coaster of a year,” says Sarah Blackwood in the exclusive RADIO.COM interview above. “Over the past few years we’ve been releasing singles and continuously releasing content and music, but we wanted to put a journey together, again. We wanted to have that album happen again.”

“That’s where this album came from. It was just such a crazy year and you can hear it. You can kinda hear our journey through that in the songs.”

Here We Go! originally had a different name altogether, but a trip back home, singing the title track after they closed out their tour, led the band to the true essence of the album. “We stopped and the three of us looked at each other and we all knew what we were thinking,” Gianni Nicassio smiles. “Someone hit pause and we were like, ‘guys that’s the name of the album, this whole time.’”

After frantically alerting their team, the change was made and Here We Go! became the title for their new album. “They weren’t too happy with us, but they also agreed that it was the right name for the album,” he adds. “It has so many meanings to us, and we’re glad that we had that revelation.”

As the band explains, “Here We Go! (Overtime)” is a song about the people that really matter in your life. “For us it was more friends, family, the support systems that we’ve had through the years and the people that surround us that motivate us and inspire us, including the fans,” Blackwood says of the focus for the title track. “Just this big message – that we all need to be there for each other.”

“Especially when you’re at your most vulnerable, or your most down and out. You really find out who your true friends are at that point,” adds Joel Cassady.

The band has accumulated quite a few friends and fans along this journey, a couple of them being names you might know. Whether it’s a couple of tweets that made their Taylor Swift cover a part of her World Tour, or their vision board that helped them get onto Ellen, Walk Off the Earth keep finding themselves in accomplished company.

“Maroon 5 was another one. We did a cover of ‘Girls Like You’ and a cover of ‘Payphone,’” Blackwood says. “They’ve shown us some love over the years too. So yeah, it’s cool.”

Here We Go! from Walk Off the Earth is now available everywhere.
