It's a dream come true for musical fans - a movie version of "Wicked" is slated to hit the big screen in 2021.

Universal Pictures says Friday the film will land in theaters on Dec. 22, 2021, the AP reports.

"Wicked," based on a book by Gregory Maguire, is a reimagining of "The Wizard of Oz" told from the witches' perspective.

The original Broadway production was nominated for 10 Tony awards, and won three.

"Wicked" had been set to open this year, but Universal scheduled another Broadway adaptation for release in 2019: "Cats," featuring a star-studded cast including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and James Corden, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
